Bengaluru (earlier also called Bangalore) is the capital of Karnataka state. The center of India's high-tech industry, the city is also famous for its parks and nightlife. By Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha is a Neo-Dravidian legislative building. Former royal residences include 19th-century Bangalore Palace, modeled after England’s Windsor Castle, and Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace. Bangalore lies in the southeast of the South Indian state of Karnataka. It is in the heart of the Mysore Plateau. No major rivers run through the city, although the Arkavathi and South Pennar cross paths at the Nandi Hills. Bangalore has a handful of freshwater lakes and water tanks, the largest of which are Madivala tank, Hebbal lake, Ulsoor lake, Yediyur Lake and Sankey Tank.
